Their Published Description:
ArtCenter was established in 1984 by a small group of artists who envisioned a potential cultural renaissance in what was then a blighted and vacant Lincoln Road.  In partnership with the City of Miami Beach, the group obtained Federal Community Development Block Grant funds to acquire properties and create an artists' colony in 21 storefront spaces. Since then, ArtCenter has become the cultural and economic catalyst for the revitalization of the Lincoln Road neighborhood and South Beach. In 1986, the City of Miami Beach recognized the success of our founders' vision by designating ArtCenter's three-block area as the Lincoln Road Arts District.
As an arts incubator promoting the development of visual arts and artists, ArtCenter is an important resource for South Florida's cultural life.  Through our policy of open studios and free admission, ArtCenter exposes the public to the artistic process on a daily basis, helping promote the idea that everyone can be connected to the creative energy of art-making.  Simultaneously, we nurture the artists' creative efforts and encourage the community's understanding of the value of this effort, helping residents and visitors reconnect with the creative energies inherent in us all.  No other institution in the region offers this array of services or even this kind of approach. ArtCenter/South Florida, a not-for-profit organization, is dedicated to advancing the knowledge and practice of contemporary visual arts and culture in South Florida. ArtCenter exists to provide affordable workspace on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach for outstanding visual artists in all stages of career development.  ArtCenter offers access to resources and support, creates opportunities for experimentation and innovation, and encourages the exchange of ideas across cultures and artistic disciplines. ArtCenter's mission is manifested through three primary program components: the juried artist program, contemporary exhibition program and our multiple education programs.

If you want to have a studio space amongst the razzle-dazzle of Lincoln Street this is the place for you. You can walk down the street past the many outdoor restaurants on your way to do buy a dress that’s just a little too risqué for any other part of America, or you can pop into your studio and get some work done. This is not a place for the easily distracted.  The beautiful Miami people are right outside, and there is no shortage of places to have cocktails with them two doors down.  With that said, this space is very strange as it acts as a studio space for independent artists who often say they stay there because they can sell to all of the foot traffic that passes thier studio.  These studios all kind of remind me of a fish bowl, and I am not sure if I would like to work that way, but if you want to combine selling your work time with studio making time, this is your place. The large Gallery beside the studio spaces is for non-permanent shows that are often curated. They are hit or miss. I have seen really good stuff, stuff that was good last year and wanna be good stuff, and stuff that everyone else’s thinks is on point but is getting stale.  The space is beautiful; it has many large street font windows that allow for amazing light and good vistas.  Its especially dramatic at night when the art inside the gallery seems to glow to the street.

Their Published Description:
Carla Fache was born in Santiago, Chile, on May 14,1977.  Residing in Miami, Fl since 2001. Since the age of four, her drawings reflected her creative mind, signaling her out from the rest of her peers. During her adolescence, her imagination exploded into a world of creativity, displayed onto the canvas.  She translates her innate and original talent, through her strengths and passions, using her favorite color "RED".  Surrealist art and the comics lured her into the art world, preparing her to discover her artistic niche in abstract modern art.  Her mission is to allow the spectator to tap into his/her own imagination and exercise his/her freedom of thought and expression through his/her own interpretation.

Editors Description
Seriously folks I found this gallery on a website for call for artists, and was intrigued because I have been in Miami many times and had never heard of this gallery. Well the only published statement about the gallery I could find was the one above and its about Mrs. Fache. This is most obviously a vanity gallery for Carla Fache’s work. The only shows the gallery has that have been curated (by Mrs. Fache or her husband….) have Carla in them. Something of course that is frowned upon in all respectable circles. So good for Carla, she has built a commercial empire, but why the heck they are accepting proposals is really beyond me. So…if you want to have a group show in this vain empire of commercialism send them a package. If you are not sure what her philosophy is, to tell if your work may match, here is a quote form her artists statement “When I finish my paintings I feel happy and satisfied with my work. The brush on the canvas is like caressing the one you love.  Painting is my renaissance, my life, my stairway to heaven.” Send me a postcard from heaven and let me now how her affair with the painter of light Tom Kinkade is going while you are there.

Editors Description:

I had the opportunity to both show and work for FAU. I did not show at either of these galleries, I showed on the FAU Jupiter Campus in the Atrium and highly discourage any serious artist from showing there. I was not treated, during installation or de-install the way an artist should be treated, Plus there was a lot of snide shit going on behind my back from the committee that had invited me. I will not even bother posting their info they were so bad. So don’t show in Jupiter, but do show with FAU on the Boca Campus. The Schmidt is a beautiful gallery, with Museum quality walls and an exceptional director. What makes him so good is his ability to match projects with the financial backing of the Cultural Non-Profits down in the surreal land of sun and ridiculous wealth. The director here has a sharp eye and is very clever when it comes to contemporary art and will bring in the best projects he can. As an artist I was always treated with respect from him and his entire staff and would not discourage anyone to show here.

Editors Description:
Mulry herself is extremely nice, and can be very courteous. When I visited her last she was very attentive to what I was showing her, and seemed genuinely interested. I had a very pleasant chat. She is not the best at keeping in touch but not terrible either. I wouldn’t recommend this gallery for a totally different reason. For all kinds of  reasons I have issues with collectors getting involved with galleries in any capacity other than buyer. I think it takes the integrity out of the gallery process.  This gallery at this moment has a collector actively involved with the workings of the gallery, now I can see why this would work, the collector buys the stuff the relationship seems symbiotic…but really how immoral and wrong is that. I happen to know this collector personally, and think she is completely evil and an insane control freak on top of it all. So my sympathies go to this gallery and to Mulry.  I look forward to seeing how this Drama will unfold so I am giving this gallery an unstable rating and it may not be a good time to work with them.

Their Published Description:

On November 26, 2005, New York/ West Palm Beach-based Sarah Gavlak, an independent curator, writer, and private art dealer opened her eponymous gallery, Gavlak at 3300 South Dixie Highway, on the famed Antique Row in West Palm Beach, Florida. The gallery showcases the work of primary international emerging and established artists including Jose Alvarez, Lisa Anne Auerbach, Bettina Brüning, Carolyn Carr, Todd Eberle, Phillip Estlund, Wade Guyton, Sandra Hamburg, Kathleen Johnson, Anthony James, Laleh Khorramian, Miyeon Lee, Marilyn Minter, Aleksandra Mir, Alexandra Penney, Alexis Marguerite Teplin, and Elif Uras. Gavlak artists range in media from painting, collage, video, and installation.

Editors Description:

Lets put it this gallery this way, I would not leave the director with kittens to watch over but boy can she work the blue chip gallery system and that I can respect, if its not who I want to be. This director knows what she is doing in the realm of commercial art and knows how to make it happen. The first time she applied to the containers at Basel she got her galley in. If this gallery represents you, chances are you will sell work; the director is all business and very good at it. I have joined her entourage a time or two and she was very gracious to go to dinner with, and has never been impolite, disrespectful or rude to me. Her gallery shows some of the best work, like Marylyn Minter and some of the most meaningless decorative/ethnic local Fl painting simultaneously (nameless) but I am sure she will sell it all. To her credit she has taken a chance on some emerging artists. One is a good friend of mine and very happy working with her. Although I have heard the street grumble a little bit about this gallery’s ethics in treating a few other local artists. Generally however I think this is a good gallery, if your goal is to sell work and get placed in some dominant collections. She is well connected and knows how to play the high art collectors game extremely well.

This gallery is in the Wynwood Art District, right beside the design district. There are a lot of galleries in this area, some that totally completely suck and some that are international players.  This is not an international player but the gallery definitely does not suck.   This gallery stands out from the many in the neighborhood because the director here is very cool. She has a lot going on, all of it art related and is tapped into a scene of artists whose work has integrity and merit.  I was not only treated with respect while visiting her gallery and parties, but had a fantastic time, and was surrounded by fantastic local artists who live their life with art at the center.  I was not left with the cold pasty taste that most commercial galleries give me.  This gallery is highly recommended.

located in Miami, approached me to show in their space, and I started asking around to see if established artists had heard anything about her. Of the ten people I asked, two had been represented by her, and ALL said that she paid her artists months late, and often, not at all.
