Their Published Description:
The Contemporary Artists Center is a non-profit art organization founded in 1990 by working artists for working artists. Through its artists' residencies, workshops, lectures, exhibitions and performances the CAC seeks to promote the creation and appreciation of contemporary art.
Located in the Berkshire Mountains, the CAC is part of one of the most important contemporary art regions outside of metropolitan cities. The nations largest contemporary visual and performing arts museum, MASS MoCA, is located here, as are the Clark Art Institute, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and Williams College Museum of Art. The Tanglewood Music Festival, Jacob's Pillow Dance, Berkshire Museum, and many other cultural and recreational offerings are also nearby.
The Beaver Mill, home of the CAC, is a 130,000 sq ft historic brick and stone mill situated on 27 acres of woodland and adjoining the Natural Bridge State Park. The CAC comprises 25,000 sq ft of the building and houses five galleries, a residency hall, and approximately 12,000 sq ft of studio space
Editors Description
Unfortunately this gallery has an application fee for everything. Not something I support. But other than that they seem to have a nice selection and range of work form the region and nation. They provide workshops and have a residency program that you will also have to apply for a sepreate scholarship to attend. If you don’t receive a scholarship its 300 a week to go, and real artists just don’t have that kind of cash. I also think its funny that in their mission statement they spend so much time talking about the other art venues in the area and not more about themselves.
