Editors Description:
They seem very confused, like they will just show about anything. Who has heard of ethnograohic art and contemporary painting under the same roof before. Was someone trying to impress a lover, who was an anthropologist? So lame, and not usually the way to get the art world to respect you, my stay at home eat cookies to Soaps Mom knows that. The almighty dollar seems to be their driving force…..but lets here from someone who has had the unpleasantness of showing there…..

I had unfortunate experiences with Allyn Gallup Fine Arts in Sarasota, FL. My work was damaged while at the gallery, the damage wasn't reported to me I found it once I asked for the work to be returned.Damage ranged from scatches to gouges on the surfaces to food/wine stains on the paintings. He framed a piece, without consulting me and modified the orientation of the work (i.e. hung it as a vertical when it was signed as a horizontal). When the work was returned to me it still had the gallery price tags attached to the back showing me that the pieces were marked up several hundreds of dollars more than our agreed price. When sales did come, I was always told that the client got a discount for one reason or another (i.e. interior designer, etc). The "discount" didn't match the increase in sticker price. Who knows what amount the work sold for? Also I was promised a show and the date kept moving forward. I finally pulled my work.

Editors Description:
For those of you who know about the Armory Art Center in West Palm, in Florida this is the exact same kind of place, only on the other coast of Fl. They are run by a board of trustees, who have more money than knowledge about art, but never the less they have their heart in the right place. This is a community gallery with the money form the donations and classes offered to the local retired population who can afford to live in Florida, to bring in International artist for workshops and exhibitions. They do have a school for teaching arts to the community and to children, which is good. They are not a cutting edge radical art scene, but rather a nice local arts center, which focuses on craft. Most artists, who show here, also offer a master class to teach. It’s the proceeds form these classes that allow for the better international shows they get.
